From April 14th until the 20th leading up to earth day, Non Toxic Revolution is challenging YOU to pledge against plastics and share daily.
How to start the challenge:
Learn more about why plastic sucks:
Why should I avoid plastic?
Plastic is virtually unavoidable and is laced with toxic chemicals that are slowly released into the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste a year and requires 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce; that’s just in the United States. Studies have shown that chemicals commonly found in plastics such as Bisphenol-A (BPA) have been linked to hormone disruption, increased breast and prostate cancer cell growth, and the early onset of puberty and obesity.
Is Bisphenol-A (BPA) really that bad?
HECK YES! Bisphenol-A (BPA) is an industrial chemical compound used to make plastics and epoxy resins. It's found in reusable plastic water bottles, the lining inside metal food and beverage cans. And like mentioned above, it has been linked to things you really, really want to avoid. Learn more about the BPA here.
Do I really have to avoid and collect every piece of plastic?
YES, that's the tradeoff if you absolutely can't get around it. For the entire week you must collect all the plastic you use: the plastic wrapper around your paper towels, the bag in your cereal box, and even the plastic ring on your glass bottle lid. You have to keep all of it! So try your hardest to avoid it and make better choices.
