Keep A Breast Foundation - Non Toxic Revolution

Alli and the Bee: Meet Maya!

I’m Alli Abbott - Breast cancer survivor and mama to little miss Maya Jane, aka The Bee, born February 26, 2012. Maya is my miracle baby. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2005 when I was 26 years old. I was pretty sure I’d never be able to have children after going through chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and 5 years of Tamoxifen. My husband and I were married on June 4, 2011 and decided to just “see what happens.” Four short weeks after returning from our wedding and honeymoon I peed on a stick and two pink lines quickly appeared before my eyes. Turns out the doctors were wrong -- cancer wasn’t going to stop me from moving on with my life! When I was diagnosed with breast cancer one of the first things to cross my mind was “what caused this??” I do not have a family history of breast cancer (or any other kind of cancer for that matter) and I was otherwise perfectly healthy. I knew there had to be things in my lifestyle that I was unaware were damaging my body. I went on a mission to figure out what those things could be. Since then I have undergone a complete overhaul and am living a proactively healthy and nontoxic lifestyle. Obviously, when I found out I was pregnant I knew I had to up my game and offer the same nontoxic lifestyle to my baby. My mission now is not only to keep my own body healthy and toxin-free, but also to understand how I can limit my baby girl’s exposure to anything that might be harmful to her little body. I’ve been busy researching, learning, and putting my knowledge to practice. Throughout my pregnancy, her birth, and her new life here in this world I have committed to helping her live toxin-free. This is an exciting, invigorating, and downright challenging journey and I hope by sharing I can offer ideas and inspiration, and open the conversation up to others mamas that also want to live toxin-free. - Alli
